Bill began his radio and TV broadcast career in 1949.  He handled play-by-play and was color commentator for University of Delaware football, basketball and baseball in the 1960s, l980s and
1990s.  Bill handled basketball, football and baseball game announcing at Lafayette, Muhlenberg and Villanova in the1950s and 1960s. He broadcast TV play-by-play for the NBA Philadelphia
Warriors (1957-59), Palestra “Big Five” basketball (1955-60), Wilmington Blue Bombers (1960-67), and Phillies TV shows (1955-59) .  Bill called horse races at Delaware Park, Brandywine Raceway
and Fair Hill Steeplechase (1950s & 1970s).  He announced TV pro boxing in Philadelphia (1955-56), Salesianum High School football for 25 years, high school championship games in football,
basketball and soccer, and All-Star football games for 25 years for WDEL.  Bill served as Sports Editor for Delaware Today Magazine, sports columnist for the Philadelphia Sunday Bulletin and
sports writer for Young Athlete magazine.  He was a seven-time winner of the National Sports Writers & Broadcasters Award for Delaware 1973-1987.  Bill received the Yankee Conference
Bill Knight Award for football coverage, Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Herm Reitzes Award , the Blue Hen Touchdown Club “Hallam-Robinson” Award,  the Athletic Institute National
Service Award and the Delaware State Golf Association  Outstanding Contribution Award.  He broadcast more than  1000 professional, collegiate and high school games in more than 200
sites and 32 states.



Every inductee into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame since our inaugural year in 1976 is represented on our website. Honoring the athletic excellence of these men and women is an integral part of Delaware sports history.


From our annual Delaware Sports Hall of Fame induction gala in May, celebrations of Black History Month and Women in Sports Month, as well as individual sports highlights, there is something for every sports fan.
