Ernie was third team All-State in 1964 and named to the coaches Top 10 team.  A four-year starter on the Delaware State football team, Anderson led the Hornets in rushing, scoring and touchdowns

nine seasons as head coach for both boys and girls.  His teams collected 12 state championship meet titles while finishing second seven times.  The Delcastle boys team won eight New Castle
County meet titles, finishing second five times.  Ernie’s Delcastle boys teams had a seven year stretch (1084-90) without a dual meet loss.  Overall, Anderson’s boys teams had a dual meet
record of 225 wins, 109 losses with three ties.  His girls teams went 59-19-1.  Ernie coached 12 individual state record setters, 140 individual state chamions and 44 state relay
championshiop teams.  He was voted Delaware Track and Field Coach of the Year eight times and New Castle County Coach of the Year four times.  Scores of his track athletes earned college
scholarships.  Ernie is in the Delaware State Athletic Hall of Fame and, in 2010, was inducted into the Delaware Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame.
